Tactics Ogre Gaiden

Quest gained many new fans of its Ogre Battle series with Ogre Battle 64. Luckily for fans new & old, Tactics Ogre Gaiden is underway for GBA. It's a bit different but should be every bit as great as OB64.

I just finished Ogre Battle 64 about two weeks ago. I bought the game in early October. I took a two-week break from the title to replay Zelda: Oot in order to prepare for the sequel (silly me, I thought I could find Majora’s Mask during the holidays) but pretty much had a daily habit of Ogre Battle. It was a lifestyle and I loved every minute. I did restart the game ¼ of the way through, only because it took that long to fully appreciate the game’s mechanics.

If you’ve read our preview, you’ll know that this game is a bit more on the strategy side than the RPG / RTS style of OB64. I don’t mind at all. I loved the story, the creatures and the adsorbing gameplay of managing my army down to the last armament. If I weren’t working on the site so much right now, I would be replaying OB64.

Regrettably, Ogre Battle was the first OB game I’ve played though have been assured the rest of the series is just as great. I’d love to see more, so please vote to bring this game to the U.S. I hope it also won’t be asking to much to request that the game be as well translated and uncensored as Ogre Battle 64—Atlus did a truly commendable job with it, and dare I say, set a standard for RPGs appearing on Nintendo consoles. Maybe they can get the publishing rights again.

Nintendo’s updated preview shows all new screens, which are accurately described as “look every bit as crisp as the visuals found in Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber for Nintendo 64!” Believe it or not, it's not just idle boasting either.

The preview also says the shots should inspire die-hard fans to start a petition or two. Is that a challenge Nintendo? While I know I'm not the only one ready & willing to rally for a U.S. release of Tactics Ogre Gaiden, I hope it doesn't come to that. Since Nintendo are letting us vote on it, it may not have to.
