E3 2005 Award (no border)

Revolution's "Virtual Console"

The most shocking announcement made at Nintendo’s press conference was that Nintendo’s new Revolution console would be backward compatible with not only GameCube games, but with every Nintendo console game back to the NES. The system has the ability to download old games and emulate the NES, SNES, and N64, in addition to being able to play GameCube titles. The announcement of this feature wowed the crowd and stood out as a huge feature for the forthcoming console.

" I actually expected this all along, but I was certainly happy to hear my wish had come true! No more NES grey screens for me!" - Michael "TYP" Cole

"The trump card in backwards compatibility. I look forward to the press release touting 'Largest launch line up ever with hundreds of titles.'" - Daniel Bloodworth

"Look at the sales of "TV games", which sell for $20-30 for a handful of crappy old Atari games, if you don't understand why this feature is going to be a huge deal." - Jonathan Metts

" A brilliant idea that is so simple, I'm surprised nobody thought of it sooner. With the current 80's nostalgia boom, the timing is perfect for this type of service. I could see the ability to play their favorite games of yesteryear actually keeping gamers from buying other consoles." - Jonathan Lindemann

"This was the best announcement of the whole show, hands down." - Mike Sklens
