E3 2005 Award (no border)

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

It may not be the most surprising decision, but that’s because Nintendo knows the GameCube better than anybody else. Link’s latest adventure is phenomenal looking. Character models are crisp, and the textures look great. However, what’s most impressive in Twilight Princess is the animation. It’s extremely fluid and very detailed. The horse battle in particular stands out as truly amazing.

To complement the technical aspects of the graphics, Twilight Princess also has a magnificent art style. Link has never looked better. His companions and the environments they inhabit are brimming with life.

"There was certainly a backlash against Wind Waker's "toon" shading, but most fans seem to agree: Twilight Princess looks awesome. And they're right, as it features the kind of detail and beauty we've come to expect from Nintendo." - Karl Castaneda

"Obviously inspired by the Lord of the Rings movies, Twilight Princess features huge environments, towering bosses, and a whole new look. It's already one of the most beautiful GameCube games ever created." - Jonathan Lindemann

"Zelda looked less than perfect thanks to the TV screens used at E3, but you can tell from the trailers how sweet it's going to look in the end. I love the mixing of realistic and toon-shaded styles!" - Jonathan Metts

"I love how realistic Hyrule is being invaded by cel-shaded evil." - Daniel Bloodworth

"I don't think this is a surprise to anyone. Link is a hottie, the dungeons aren't at all barren (as I had feared), and the townsfolk look hilarious. Watch out, Resident Evil 4!" - Michael "TYP" Cole
