The best and the worst are exposed in our Fifth Annual Awards.

Game of the Year - Game Boy Advance

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

Nintendo has done well to trust Capcom with its beloved Legend of Zelda series on its handhelds. With Oracle of Ages and Seasons, they proved that they could be true to the Zelda formula, but add a sweet touch to make them distinctive. With The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, this touch remains with the ability to shrink in size. While the concept of two distinct worlds remains nothing new within the context of the Zelda series (light and dark worlds, old link and young link, etc.) the greatness lies in the implementation. Minish Cap succeeds in taking the existing Hyrule and, by shrinking Link, turning an every-day environment into a nightmare. Though films have shown how anything seen in a different perspective can become wholly new, Minish Cap may very well be the first game to truly embody that feeling for the gamer.

Runner Up: Final Fantasy IV
