Guest writer Termin8Anakin from the Planet GameCube forums fills us in on this huge weekend event that's quite possibly the biggest thing Nintendo Australia has ever done.
At around 7pm-7: 30pm, the last four from each team were eliminated, and only two were left. The players were Dylan and Neill. And it was time for a traditional Pokemon Battle. One-on-One. Six Pokemon each. On the Game Boy Player, no less.
Neill was playing using the Game Boy Player, Dylan on the GBA SP. Using the games they had been playing, and the Pokemon they had captured and raised, the battle started. And it was spectacular.

Dylan was off to a strong start. Fainting two of Neill’s Pokemon. But despite this, everyone was going for Neill. Neill sent out his third Pokemon: a Bird that looked like Pidgey. Using a wind attack, he defeated Dylan’s second Pokemon. The crowd was cheering and laughing.
It was here that Dylan’s fate was decided. He sent out a Roselia. From the sarcastic “Oh no!” cries of the crowd, you could tell that Dylan chose wrong. With one wind attack, Roselia fainted. Dylan’s fourth Pokemon, unfortunately, also turned out to be a Roselia. And so was his fifth, and so was his final Pokemon. When this happened, the crowd went nuts. By the look on Dylan’s face, and the shake of his head, you could tell he was going to lose. And with one wind attack, Neill beat them all.
Amidst a hail of cheers, Neill was declared Pokemon Champ. And in a bigger hail of (envious) cheers, he was presented with a rather large plane ticket to Singapore, and a pass indicating his free Nintendo products for a whole year. Dylan, also amongst a hail of cheers, also got a pass for free Nintendo products for a year.

All in all, this day couldn’t have been better. Us gamers here in Australia were crying out for better marketing and such, and well, I don’t think it gets any better than this. This was a Nintendo gamers dream. Not only were hundreds of people in Sydney exposed to the fun that was Nintendo, but also hundreds of people left the event with smiles bigger than their faces. Everyone got something. I also got three important bits of info out of a Nintendo rep.
The event ended at around 8pm, and the crowd dispersed. Chris, Lance and I headed to Town Hall railway Station, and went home.
Daylight Savings is tonight, and it’s always good to know that after something like this, you can really get a good night’s sleep, and dream with absolute fanboy-ish happiness about it.
