Mysterious GamePak and the shiny new handheld!

RPGamer put a cool little article up about how Nintendo is making sure their GBC Zelda opuses will get the 32-bit treatment. Well a 32-bit bonus at least.

One of the most exciting features of the GameBoy Advance is the system's capability to play GameBoy Color titles. However, up until now, there has been no mention of old games being enhanced on the new system. According to Nintendo, the upcoming pair of GameBoy Color Zelda titles, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, will contain a special secret which can only be discovered by owners of the new handheld. If gamers play either of these Zelda titles on the GameBoy Advance, they will have the chance to discover a well-hidden secret shop, found exclusively on the new system.

Nintendo did not reveal what is to be discovered within this shop, or if it will take advantage of the GameBoy Advance's enhanced graphics hardware, so fans will just have to wait and find out for themselves. Further, it will be interesting to see how other developers might make use of the GameBoy Advance's backwards-compatibility feature in a similar way. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, recently renamed for North America from the Japanese Mystical Seed of Power titles, are scheduled for release in Japan in just a few days, on February 27th. North American fans will have to wait a bit longer, and can expect the game to be available near the June release date of the GameBoy Advance.
