Will it let up? Apparently not, as here's another report from Australia. More on the GC Australian launch date & a down under retail overview.
I should have known the minute I posted a new retail report - more would come. Well, we've got another perspective from Australia.
Without further adieu, here is "SilvCP" from down under...
SilvCP says: Hey there,I work in the computer department of Australia's
*largest* Computer, Electrical and Bedding store..
"HN"
Just some info for you..
GameCube:
Release "at this stage" as quoted by our Nintendo rep
is "March at best."
GBA:
Mock cardboard GBA's in store for a week now. No solid
price given yet due to "fluctuating Australian dollar"
PlayStation 2:
We are selling plenty. However, this is most likely
because we offer interest free terms for between six
to twelve months.. Current price is AU$699. Has been
this way for a week. Sony sent us free controllers for
every console we had so we could drop the price from
$749. Maybe 5 out of 50 consoles have come back..
We've had to send them away because Sony refuses to
receive dead PS2s from retailers. The customer must
ship the console to Sony (at Sony's expence) to get
the ball rolling.
Dreamcast:
We order one or two of the new games. They all sell.
However, we haven't had a DC in stock for over 4
months. Old games sit there gathering dust. Floor
space is reduced to close to nothing to make room for
new PS2 games.
PSOne:
Pretty average. Only games that ever sell are young
kids games like "Bob the Builder" (though we've sold
more of them then any other title in the store).
N64:
Same as PSOne. Dead. Pokemon craze slowing.
Rep. Overview:
Sony reps are not bad all at. Always give floor staff
/ salespeople PLENTY of freebie, such as GAMES,
shirts, figureens, etc. Aragant attatude noticable at
times.
Nintendo reps are nice yet stingy. Not as willing to
try win over the salespeople. Gives store more wall
posters, cardboard stands etc. Obvious difference in
sales methods. Insted of trying to win the salespeople
over, they put up posters, etc to get the customers
won over before asking a salespersons advice.
Sega (Ozisoft). Ozisoft distribute, the DC and about
40+ % of the PC game market. They rarely come down at
all. Not much to be said.
Overall Nintendo and Ozisoft give off neutral vibes in
terms of attatude.. Sony and EA - (EA are the worst
company for 'evil' vibes) generally give off bad vibes
and attatudes towards both the customer and the
retailer. Though the free stuff from Sony does partly
make up for it. ;)
I've said all that I can think of right now.. Howfully
we'll have DC online at the end of this month.. *yay*
