Crytek's CryEngine and Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 are both headed to Nintendo's next console.
Reports indicate that both Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 and Crytek's CryEngine will be able to run on the recently-announced system.
Among the list of third party Wii U titles announced during the E3 press conference were Batman: Arkham City and Aliens: Colonial Marines. Both games run on Unreal Engine 3. Epic Games' Mark Rein has tacitly confirmed that the game engine is in the works for Wii U, but has declined to do so explicitly.
Crytek has explicitly confirmed that their CryEngine is already "pretty much running..." on Wii U. Crytek CEO Cevay Yerli told Develop, "Crytek's support is definitely going to happen."
The Wii was criticized for not being powerful enough to run modern game engines, meaning that there would be no possibility of playing these games as they could not be ported to the system. This looks to be changing with Wii U.
