What does Enix think of Nintendo and it's next gen powerhouse? Read this and find out.

IGNcube, the lucky bastards they are, recently snagged an interview with Kogi Taguchi. Taguchi is the director and head of software planning at Enix of Japan. Here's a transcript of the interivew.

IGNcube: How would you describe the relationship between Enix and Nintendo?

Enix Japan: The relationship between Nintendo and Enix is that of First Party and Third Party in which the First Party publishes hardware while Third Party publishes software that is compatible for that hardware.

Since the days of the "Family Computer" (NES), the two companies have maintained a healthy friendly relationship.

IGNcube: Why didn't Enix develop its bigger franchise games for Nintendo 64?

Enix Japan: Fundamentally, Enix plans to develop and publish products for the platform that has the largest installment base. For that reason, after initially developing software for N64, Saturn and PS, we decided to publish software mostly for PlayStation because it had the largest installment base.

For the next generation machines, including PS2, GameCube and Xbox, Enix plans to develop and publish games for the platform that we believe will have that largest installment base.

IGNcube: What is Enix's opinion of the next-generation GameCube console?

Enix Japan: Enix is very interested in the performance of the hardware and Nintendo's software planning. Just as mentioned before, Enix will evaluate the possibility of developing software for that platform if we determine it is going to have the largest installment base.

IGNcube: Has Enix received development hardware for Nintendo's next-generation GameCube console?

Enix Japan: We cannot answer that question at this time.

IGNcube: What is Enix's opinion of the GameCube console versus PlayStation 2 and Xbox?

Enix Japan: PS2 has the potential of being a high-quality multimedia machine for home-use. Xbox has the technology of Microsoft, the acceptance worldwide and the potential of networking. GameCube, on the other hand, has emphasized the feature of "playing games" instead of multimedia.

How will consumers perceive those features? The evaluation of platforms should be done among the consumers -- not us.

IGNcube: Enix has commented that it does not yet know what platform the next DragonQuest game will appear on. Is GameCube being considered?

Enix Japan: We have not determined a platform at this time.
