E3 on Video

Is it live...or is it memorex?

The good folks over at Video-Source are taking pre-orders for their annual (kick ass!) E3 video. The tapes cost (not including shipping) $18.50 (EP, Single-Tape version, 6 Hours) or $26.50 (SP, Three-Tape version, 6 Hours). I have seen the last 2 (EP version) and the quality was decent. I have not seen the SP version, so I can't say how much better it is. I have to admit, these are excellent if you're someone like myself who would do sick and twisted things to be there (still taking offers). Plus, if you're one to buy the mags to see what it was all about, who would rather watch it on video instead of waiting for the quicktimes/streams to download - this deal's for you.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with our video, let me give a little background on it. We have created videos for these shows in the past: WCES '94, WCES '95, SCES '94, E3 '95, E3 '96, E3 '97, Tokyo Game Show Fall '97, E3 '98, and Tokyo Game Show Fall '98. For a glimpse of last year's video, click [here]. Our videos for U.S. trade shows run approximately six hours in length of non-stop game footage with audio when possible. We don't waste time with booth girls or other unimportant things. Why bother with those 2 or 3 hour videos for about the same price? It's hard enough as is to fitting all the footage we have on a six hour tape. We can't even imagine anything less.

The video will be fully subtitled with the name of the game, what system it is on, and approximate release date if available, so you'll know what you're watching. Footage will be a mixture of footage filmed by our camera as well as an assortment of direct feed footage. There will be more camera footage in comparison to direct feed of course. You'll get to see Dreamcast, PlayStation 2 (even if it's not there, we have some footage that hasn't been released from the recent Game Developers Conference to throw on), Nintendo 64, PlayStation, Game Boy, Arcades, and PC titles. Just to note, we do concentrate more on the console side so we'll likely only get a few PC titles in and we'll keep it to the larger and well known ones. This year, the video is being sponsored by Gaming Age which will be one of the leading sources for E3 information. Please check them out at http://www.gaming-age.com as we plan to post video clips from this years video online during the show. Since we do have appointments with several companies with a press badge, it's quite possible we'll even get to show you some games, if there are any and we're allowed to tape, that are only shown behind the scene. In the past we've had exclusive footage of Final Fantasy 8 for the PlayStation, Robotech for the Nintendo 64, and Street Fighter Alpha before it was released in the arcade. We will also be attending private press conferences the day before the show. We'll see what we can come up with this year.

Like the previous years, we will continue our two format option as both have been popular among our customers. Since the video is six hours long, you have the option of buying the tape in two possible formats: there is the single-tape EP (Extended Play) version and the three-tape SP (Standard Play) version. Video footage is IDENTICAL on both tapes, with the only difference being that the SP version will be a bit sharper in video quality. However, since a lot of this will be filmed from a camera off a TV screen, the differences will be negligible at best. The tape will be in NTSC format. Sorry there will be no version of the tape in PAL format.
