ZooCube

by Zosha Arushan - May 23, 2002, 3:25 pm EDT

Firsthand impressions from the show floor.

Zoocube is a quirky little puzzler that takes a little while to get into. Essentially you use the dual analog sticks to control the middle cube to collect the falling animal parts that fly in from every direction. If you hit two of the same “pieces” they disappear and you get points. I haven’t quite figured the game out yet but I can see there is a quite a nice combo system hiding from me.

At first the game plays rather slowly, but you can quicken the block’s falling by holding the A button. The L and R buttons let you switch the blocks sitting on the outside of the pile, therefore letting you match up parts easily.

While what I played was intriguing, I’m sure that fans of the genre will get a kick out of it and I’ll be sure to check out the final version at my leisure.
