Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO

by Ty Shughart - May 22, 2002, 7:04 pm EDT

If you choose the wrong groove, you may just... loooooooooose.

Capcom vs SNK2 EO is looking just as nice as (or better) as the PS2, DC, and arcade versions. There may be some slight smoothing over on the sprites, but it was a bit difficult to tell on the TV. All the features and characters are there.

I used both the 'AC-ism' and 'GC-ism' configurations. AC is the standard, fully configurable controls. GC puts the punches on L, and the kicks on R. The strength of the attack isn't based on how far the buttons are pressed, but on how fast. Also, only the analog stick was usable in this mode. I couldn't pull off a single special move this way, but maybe there's a special command for it. Maybe one could get used to this with practice, but I don't see any advantages over the regular AC-ism. I think an arcade stick is still the optimal choice in this case.

If you don't know the game inside out, skip this part; the roll cancel glitch present in all of the other existing versions has been fixed/changed. In the DC/PS2/arcade versions, you can perform a special move (or taunt!) within the first three frames or so and the move takes on the invincibility attributes of a roll. In the GameCube version, you can cancel the roll within three frames, but you don't get the invincibility; only kicked in the face by Benimaru.

In closing, CVS2eo looks nice, but you'll probably want an arcade stick.
