Fire Emblem - Maiden of the Dark

Fire Emblem is a long running RPG series that has yet to make it out of Japan. The fact Nintendo is asking if we are interested is a golden opportunity that cannot be overlooked!

I have never played any one of the many installments of Fire Emblem, mainly because they’ve never been released here and I don’t know Japanese. I’ve heard of it and researched the series for our Preview, though Dragona and Desmond (who both helped write it) know a lot more about the series than I do. From what they’ve told me, U.S. gamers are missing out on something special. The game is developed by Intelligent Systems (read our Developer Profile of Intelligent Systems here) a team who not only are responsible for the Fire Emblem series, they helped with Super Metroid as well.

RPGs go over in a big way and I shouldn’t have to repeat how they they were sorely missed on N64 (we had like, what 3?). What does Nintendo have to lose by releasing the latest Fire Emblem in the US? Believe it or not, Fire Emblem games allegedly feature some very mature content. An uncensored U.S. release of the Maiden of the Dark would fill volumes in proving Nintendo is ready and willing to shed the kiddie image and deliver RPGs—all this well before the GameCube’s launch too! And we get to vote on this?!? I trust our readers know the right thing to do!
