Godzilla - Destroy All Monsters Melee

by Jeff Shirley - May 23, 2002, 6:26 pm EDT

Here are my God:DAMM impressions.

Tucked away Infogrames’ booth was Godzilla: DAMM, and when I first played the game against another player, it was a lot of fun. The controls were good and responsive, and the buttons scheme was well laid out. A punched, B kicked, X did a Fierce Attack, Y blocked, A and B together allowed you to pick up your opponent and throw him into buildings and such, and R+L did a special move like Teleportation or digging. The hit detection was good, although sometimes you there were awkward moments. My Monster got hit from behind the other guy’s and it didn’t make sense. These should be fixed later on in the debugging.

The Graphics were NICE. The Monsters were very detailed and the animation was terrific. These Monsters moved like actual movie monster, kind of real and kind of fake. However, I do have one or two discrepancies about the graphics. The framerate dropped a little when the screen got filled up with buildings and army fire and such. Also the buildings look a little cheap, or at least on the Tokyo stage. I didn’t play the Seattle stage that I heard is really sweet looking. Hopefully, the rest of the stages are finished and polished in time for release.

This game is loads of fun and is a great party game. Many people, including myself, are looking forward to duking it out with their favorite blatantly costumed movie monsters.
